Liverpool and Slot 'receive apology from Amazon Prime' over controversy | Football | Sport

But it was a suggestion that Liverpool manager Slot had confronted the official at half-time by Amazon presenter Dan Walker that caused the biggest stir.

Walker hinted that Slot had knocked on the referee’s door to complain about card happy Madley was in the opening 45 minutes, with the referee having booked three Liverpool players in the first half.

Newcastle chief Eddie Howe was asked about the implied altercation post-match, to which he replied: “I don’t think I’ll go there. I think that’s a can of worms. I tend to focus on my team.”

However, it has since been claimed by The Times that Slot didn’t go into the referee’s room at St. James’ Park but instead had a ‘normal’ conversation with Madley in the tunnel.

As a result, it was reported that Amazon, who blamed the mistake on a production misunderstanding, reached out to Liverpool to express their regret about airing the claim.

Despite the suggestion, which proved to be untrue anyway, Slot refused to blame Madley’s performance on Liverpool dropping points in his post-match debrief.

The Dutchman said: "I have mixed feelings, we were outstanding in the second half but we were not good enough in the first half. Maybe 3-3 is what the game deserved.

"They were really aggressive and forced us into mistakes but we were so much better in the second half. I knew the game could be changed around, we were much better with the ball.”

Liverpool’s hunt for a second Premier League title in five years continues this weekend when they take on Everton in the Merseyside derby for perhaps the final-ever time at Goodison Park.
