Supermarket opens 4 new stores today and hands out free foodDue to rising popularity, one major supermarket is opening four more stores on Thursday, December 5. Today there will be Olympians cutting open red ribbons to celebrate the store openings. Plus, the first 30 customers to walk though the doors will be given free goodie bags full of food. Each goodie bag will contain different items – it'll be pot luck – but who doesn't love some free food? From today, there is a new Aldi at Cribbs Causeway in Bristol, Hetton-le-Hole in Tyne and Wear, and Ashton-in-Makerfield in Greater Manchester. The other new Aldi store has opened its doors at Macduff in Banffshire, which should delight customers. Customers aren't the only people likely to be happy about the supermarket expansion, as the store openings equate to more than 100 new jobs. All store assistants receive a starting pay of £12.40 an hour, and those based in London earn £13.65 an hour. Mr Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi UK, said: "Our new store openings are a testament to our ongoing investment in the UK. "And we’re thrilled to bring Aldi’s unbeatable prices to even more communities just in time for Christmas." Mr Thorton added: "To be opening four new stores in one day is an outstanding effort from the team and shows just how serious we are about bringing more stores to communities up and down the country." These store openings follow recent expansions in Sedgley in the West Midlands, Horsham in West Sussex and Muswell Hill in London. New Aldi stores open today
