Fitbit fans fume over new app bug and users are 'jumping ship'

Fitbit might be going through a bit of a transition phase recently with the admission from parent company Google that there won’t be another Fitbit branded smartwatch, but it’s rare to see a bug stop people from using certain parts of the Fitbit app. Alas, that’s exactly what appears to be happening after Fitbit fans took to the internet to point out a major flaw in the Android version of the app.

As spotted by Android Authority, people with phones that have just got the upgrade to Android 15, the latest version of Android, are now faced with a bug in the Fitbit app that cuts off the top of the Food section. This means you can’t scroll back and see your historic food data.

It also appears to cut off the top search results when you type in a food type, with many users on the official Fitbit community forums flagging that they see the bug on Google Pixel phones, which are among the first to get Android 15. Samsung phones, for example, won’t be getting Android 15 until 2025.

Express.co.uk was able to see the issue on our Pixel 9 Pro running the Fitbit app on Android 15:

The food section of the app may not be the most used, so casual Fitbit users might not have noticed it even if your phone has been updated to the latest Android version. If you only use the app to view the data collected by your Fitbit tracker, you hopefully will not have any issues.

But if you’ve also been using the Fitbit app to log your food, you could be very frustrated. This lesser-known part of the app can be very useful, as accurately entering all the food you consume could help you track your calorie intake, therefore improving the accuracy of how many calories you’ve burned off during the day.

Coupled with manually entering your weight data every week makes for a more complete Fitbit app experience.

“We are now entering week 4. Still no update, still no comments from Google, not even from the Moderators”, one Fitbit user posted on the forum.

“I guess over 12,500 views, 80 topic votes, and 250 replies from dissatisfied customers is not significant enough to get the attention we deserve. Many users are now jumping ship and the bad press that is just starting to happen outside the forum.”

The bug comes after a lick of paint for the Fitbit app which updated the look and feel to be more in line with Google’s so-called Material You aesthetic. Google acquired Fitbit in 2021 and has set about integrating the app into Android, and using the app and branding as part of the Google Pixel Watch experience.

Google has also said it is “committed” to the Fitbit brand despite the lack of new products. There has not been a new Fitbit released in the UK since 2023, and no smartwatch since 2022. Fitbit has even stopped using its official X page.

Fitbit released the Fitbit Ace LTE, a watch for children with built in cellular service, earlier this year, but only for the US market. As we recently reported, the Fitbit app could also see integration with Google AI smarts, so signs are mixed as to the future of the still-popular fitness brand.
