Cleaning pro swears by 49p item to dissolve toilet stains without chemicals - not vinegar

Limescale, primarily composed of calcium carbonate, accumulates in areas with hard water.

It can present itself in appliances and in toilets, usually showing up as unsightly brown or green marks which can be difficult to remove with standard cleaning methods.

Over time, these deposits not only damage the appearance of your bathroom but may also lead to plumbing issues if left untreated, according to Clare, the cleaning manager at Bust The Dust Middlesborough Cleaners.

Clare recommended a “simple yet powerful” method to eliminate limescale, using cola.

This popular beverage, which can be picked up from most supermarkets, contains acids which are effective in “dissolving” limescale without the need for “harsh chemicals”.

To use this trick, you’ll need a two-litre bottle of full-sugar cola, a toilet brush for scrubbing after treatment and protective gloves.

Clare explained: “Begin by removing as much water as possible from the toilet bowl. This can be done by turning off the water supply and flushing the toilet, or by using a cup to scoop out the water.

“Reducing the water level allows the cola to concentrate on the limescale deposits.

“Pour the entire two-litre bottle of cola directly into the toilet bowl, ensuring it covers the stained areas.”

Allow the cola to sit in the bowl overnight, allowing the acids to work and break down the limescale.

The following morning, put on your protective gloves and use the toilet brush to scrub the bowl, focusing on areas with persistent stains.

Clare added: “Once you’ve scrubbed the bowl thoroughly, flush the toilet to rinse away the loosened limescale and any remaining colour.”

A two-litre full-sugar cola is priced differently in different supermarkets, but Aldi has their cola for just 49p.

This makes this cleaning hack an affordable method compared to using specialised limescale removers, which can be more expensive.

Clare continued: “In areas with hard water, limescale can accumulate quickly.

“By incorporating this cola cleaning method into your monthly cleaning routine, you can keep your toilet bowl sparkling and free from stubborn stains.”
