8p microwave cleaning hack is guaranteed to leave appliance 'sparkling'

Dishwasher tablets, designed to remove grease and grime from dishes, are super versatile around the home.

Not only can they be used in the dishwasher, but they are also suitable for microwave as well as oven cleaning, according to experts.

When used in the microwave, the steam generated by a single dissolved tablet can help to break down grease, grime and food splatters.

If you don’t own a dishwasher or have any at home, supermarket-own brand dishwasher tablets are super affordable, according to the team at Lottomart.

Tesco sells a pack of £40 for less than £3.50, which equals less than 10p per clean.

The experts said: “Start by dissolving one dishwasher tablet in a microwave cup or mug of hot water.

“Stir until the tablet is fully dissolved, creating a powerful cleaning solution.

“Place the cup with the dissolved tablet inside the microwave after moving the internal plate to the sink, which will only require a quick clean to regain its shine.

“Set the microwave to medium power and heat for five minutes. The steam from the solution will loosen grease and grime from the walls and ceiling of your microwave.”

Once the timer goes off, allow the steam to linger inside for a few more minutes to help break down any further grime.

After the steam has worked its magic, the experts recommended opening the door and removing the cup.

Next, take a damp cloth or sponge, and simply wipe down the interior to leave your appliance in “sparkling” condition.

The pros added: “Dishwasher tablets are designed to tackle tough food particles and grease, making them the perfect solution for cleaning your microwave while upkeeping the appliance.

“This can help to prolong the life of the appliance but also protect health.

“The powerful combination of steam and dishwasher tablets work together to lift grime effortlessly.

“Plus, the polishing agents in the tablet leave behind a shiny finish that will make your microwave look brand new after a simple wipe down.”
