Keep your house warm all winter with hack to 'prevent heat loss'

Keeping your house warm during winter may be tricky, but it is essential for comfy living.

With the cost of living crisis continuing to affect the price of electricity and gas, a TikTok user has shared some little-known hacks which could help keep the heat in.

Staying warm at home during the winter season may seem tricky at first, but with these tips, it should be much easier.

Home hacks and cleaning expert Tanya Mukendi, known as @tanyahomeinspo, has shared how she keeps her property warm in winter with a few nifty tricks which you may not know about.

Simple tips like keeping your radiator clear may already be known, but Tanya has explained why it is so important to keep them free of clutter during winter.

Tanya revealed: "Keeping your radiators clear allows heat to circulate effectively. However, if you have limited space then make sure to keep your furniture a few inches a few inches apart."

Another tip from Tanya was to regulate heat with the radiator valves. By turning down the temperature, she says you can reduce energy and thus reduce the cost of using the heating.

She says this can be a way to "significantly reduce energy consumption." Those looking to keep an eye on how much energy they use or want to set a specific temperature are in luck as most modern thermostats can be programmed.

Tanya added: "You'll be surpried by how many people forget to program their thermostat properly. Get that manual out so you don't waste energy when you're not even at home."

One trick people may have forgotten is one which can keep heat inside of your home. On newer builds or windows there may be air vents at the top which are used as a way of letting air circulate even when windows are shut.

Making sure those are closed in the winter months is a game changer as is putting a rug down on wooden flooring which has a hard time retaining heat on its own. "Simply laying a rug can increase the temperature," according to Tanya.

Doubling up on your curtains or even installing heavier ones is also a great way to prevent heat from escaping your home as it can "reduce heat loss by around 40%" according to the home improvement expert.

There are cheaper ways of keeping warm during winter too including the use of a hot water bottle under a blanket to "keep you snug on your sofa".
