Georgian mansion with views of Snowdonia hits market for an eye-popping price | UK | News

A huge Georgian mansion with views of Snowdonia has hit the market for an eye-popping price.

Penrhos, a grand double-fronted Georgian residence set on approximately 7.26 acres, is set to go under the hammer with a guide price of just £430,000.

Nestled on the outskirts of Caernarfon, in Wales, this fixer-upper property has potential as a unique residence or a versatile development, subject to planning permission.

Set amidst breathtaking landscapes, the home offers not only expansive gardens but also a panoramic view of the Snowdoniamountains.

This historic residence is a rare find in this picturesque part of North Wales, positioned in the sought-after area of Caeathro, on the edge of the Royal Town of Caernarfon.

Daniel Gale, head of auctions at First for Auctions, commented: “Penrhos is an exceptional property.

"Its grandeur, combined with the breathtaking views of Snowdonia and historical connection to Sir William Preece, makes it a rare gem.

"With such extensive grounds and Georgian elegance, this property offers a world of possibilities.”

Within a short drive, buyers can reach the spectacular coastlines, the university city of Bangor, and coastal towns like Porthmadog and Pwllheli.

This is a cash buyers-only property that requires extensive renovation, presenting a great opportunity to restore a historic building with Georgian charm to its former glory.

Additional accommodation in the form of a charming cottage is also included, offering flexible living options or potential guest quarters. The cottage has previously been used as a furnished holiday let.

Penrhos holds special historical value as it was the residence of Sir William Preece, a pioneer in communications technology. Preece, born in Caernarfon in 1834, was instrumental in bringing the telephone to the UK and was a key figure in early wireless communication, collaborating with the famed inventor Guglielmo Marconi.

His legacy lives on in the region, with a plaque commemorating his contributions to the field. Living his final years at Penrhos, Preece’s connection adds an intriguing historical dimension to this already unique property.

The auction will be held online on November 27 at 10am, interested parties are required to register before bidding via First for Auctions’ website.
