William and Kate's life-changing decision surprised everyone | Royal | News

Princess Kate and Prince William have always put their children first, making an unexpected choice regarding their future. Despite the weight of their future roles as King and Queen, they are actively involved parents who even take on the school run themselves, rather than depending on staff.

Their dedication to their offspring - Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis - is renowned, yet their decision to move to Windsor "surprised everyone," a Royal commentator has revealed. In 2022, the Wales clan moved from their residence at Kensington Palace in London to the more humble Adelaide Cottage, seeking proximity to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Kate Middleton's forthcoming public engagement has been announced as she resumes her duties after a 'brutal' year. Kate Middleton reveals an 'unbreakable bond' with a fellow Royal amid cancer challenges.

King Charles is reportedly 'learning lessons' from Kate Middleton as their relationship strengthens through shared cancer battles.

Adelaide Cottage offers the family greater privacy and space for the children to enjoy a semblance of normalcy. The four-bedroom home does not house live-in staff, allowing the family complete privacy, with some staff members attending during the day for support.

Royal expert Duncan Larcombe told OK!: "I think they surprised a lot of people when they moved there. There are plenty of other places they could have moved to, but Adelaide Cottage fits with their desire as parents to be a normal family, where there aren't servants and they don't have 30 rooms. William would much rather have his kids around him, in the rooms next door to where he's sleeping."

Fellow Royal commentator Katie Nicholl weighed in, saying: "They are very, very happy there. Being able to live in the middle of Windsor Home Park, where they're not overlooked and can come and go in complete privacy, makes the downsize from Kensington Palace worth it on every level."

"There's not a huge amount of space, but Adelaide Cottage ticks all the right boxes."

Originally built for Queen Adelaide in 1831, this charming property enchanted even Queen Victoria with its ideal location for her tea rituals. While the Wales family opted for rustic charm over London luxe, they've held onto their Kensington Palace flat and still cherish getaways to Anmer Hall in Norfolk during school breaks.
