Limescale in toilets can be a common occurrence for those living in hard water areas as it leaves loos terribly dirty even if they have just been cleaned.

Limescale is a chalky menace that takes no prisoners, clinging to everything from your toilet to shower screens and taps, leaving behind unsightly stains that range from brown and yellow to grey and even black.

Desperate for a solution, one woman shared her victorious battle against limescale on the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook group.

Amy Loft exclaimed: "We asked for help earlier in the group as we hadn't been able to shift the gross stains from our toilet since moving in. We’d tried literally everything, or so I thought.

“A few of you recommended Spirits of Salt. I can’t believe it. Poured it in and watched as it literally dissolved the limescale stains before my eyes.

“After shutting the door and leaving the windows open in the loo for an hour, look at this result! I am so chuffed, thanks a ton for all your stellar advice!”

Cleaning enthusiasts were quick to praise the powerful product but issued words of caution about its use.

Paul Horse advised: “Good stuff but it is hydrochloric acid. Be careful when using it. Can be dangerous.”

Charlotte Orton chimed in: “This is amazing! Be careful when using it - burns your nostrils.”

Whilst Tracy Bristol said: "I swear by this stuff as long as you ventilate the room well."

Spirits of Salt is a powerful cleaning product designed to tackle tough limescale and grease on toilets, concrete and brickwork.

To use it for toilet descaling, carefully pour half the bottle (250ml) around the bowl and let it sit for 15 minutes or leave overnight for heavy limescale.

Ensure the room is well-ventilated when using this product due to its strong chemical content.

After applying it, flush the toilet thoroughly with cold water before using it again.
