Wallace and Gromit sequel gets 'perfect' reviews from critics | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, one of the most anticipated sequels of this year, has just received glowing reviews from critics.

The quirky claymation duo, consisting of the eccentric cheese-obsessed inventor Wallace (played by Ben Whitehead, replacing Peter Sallis) and his silent canine companion Gromit, will finally return to our screens after more than 15 years since their last escapade, A Matter of Loaf and Death.

In this new full-length adventure, Gromit grows worried that his master is becoming overly dependent on his inventions when he creates a smart gnome with artificial intelligence that goes rogue.

Gromit must come to Wallace's aid when a notorious figure from their past - the criminal penguin mastermind Feathers McGraw from The Wrong Trousers - is unveiled as the orchestrator of another wicked plot.

Currently, the film boasts a coveted 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 26 critic reviews and is being hailed as one of the top animated films of the year, reports the Mirror.

But when will viewers have the opportunity to watch it?

Regrettably, the latest Wallace and Gromit adventure won't be shown in cinemas, but this does mean fans will be able to enjoy it for free very soon.

Vengeance Most Fowl is set to premiere at home on Christmas Day, December 25, on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

A complete schedule for Christmas hasn't been confirmed yet, but given that Wallace and Gromit is suitable for all ages, it's highly likely to be broadcast before the 9pm watershed.

The BBC release will be followed hot on its heels by the international debut, with Netflix dropping the much-anticipated feature on Friday, January 3, 2025.

Anticipation is soaring in the UK for Aardman's eagerly awaited sequel, set to be a Christmas crowd-pleaser if the critics are anything to go by.

Critic Zach Pope gushed about the movie, saying it represents "the true definition of an utter delight.

"The charm, the laughs, and now their poignant satire on AI and Technology dependence will strike many with truthfulness but total entertainment. The return of Feathers McGraw lives up to his evilness!"

Clarisse Loughrey from the Independent also praised the film: "Vengeance Most Fowl is proof the traditional can still thrive not only in how a film looks, but even in the barrage of puns and corny dad jokes."

Time Out's expert Philip De Semlyen expressed admiration, noting: "It's the two characters with no dialogue at all, Gromit and Feathers, who steal the show -- a pair of silent cinema-style adversaries sparring in another joyfully Aardman nostalgic caper."

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl premieres Wednesday, December 25 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer before being released on Netflix on Friday, January 1.
