Instagram is down with thousands of UK users blocked from using key feature

No, don’t worry – it's not just you. Instagram really is down right now. According to users of the social media app, Instagram is experiencing a number of technical difficulties this morning including not being able to send Direct Messages (DMs). The gremlins appear to have begun at around 11:30 am with the issues still ongoing.

Down Detector, which tracks "when services go down or have outages", is currently showing a massive spike in reports that Instagram is struggling. In fact, there are over 2,000 mentions which shows this is a pretty big problem for the Meta-owned photo-sharing platform.

Along with that update on Down Detector, fans of the app have also rushed to vent their frustrations on rival social platforms such as X (formerly Twitter).

One user called Atharv said: "Is it me or is everyone else also not able to send DM on Instagram?"

Whilst another named Nihal added: "Is anyone else having issues with Instagram chats, or is it just me? Messages aren’t delivering and show "failed to deliver" after a few minutes. Anyone else experiencing this?"

It's currently unclear what is causing the gremlins or when things will be back to normal.
