The Met Office has warned Brits of flooding and landslides in Spain over this week.

It comes as rain and thunderstorms are expected to hit the country, with some areas experiencing a possibility of 250 to 350mm of rain.

In a post on X, the Met Office said: “Torrential rain and thunderstorms could bring flash flooding, landslides, and significant disruption to part of eastern Spain this week.

“A further 250 – 350mm of rain is possible by the weekend in a few places – the average for the whole of October is closer to 50-100mm!”

While the intense weather conditions will mainly impact Spain’s east coast, including Valencia, Benidorm and Alicante, the Balearic Islands should also expect stormy weather.

Spain’s national weather agency, Aemet, issued a weather alert, releasing a special advisory notice covering mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands.

According to the weather agency, winds of 60km/h will cover the east coast on Tuesday with coastal warnings for waves up to 4cm.

It said: “The Peninsula and the Balearic Islands are likely to continue with unstable weather under the influence of low pressure. With a margin of uncertainty, precipitation and storms are likely in the southern half, areas of the northeast, the Strait, the Alboran and the Balearic Islands, without ruling out neighbouring areas.”
