Fortnite developer Epic Games has just released a new update on PS5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Android and Nintendo Switch. The new Fortnite update will be applied to Battle Royale, Creative, LEGO Fortnite, Fortnite Festival and Rocket Racing. Launching during the ongoing Fortinitemares event, the latest patch makes a variety of bug fixes and gameplay tweaks, although it's not without its drawbacks. Indeed, despite being a relatively minor update, Epic Games has taken the game offline for server maintenance. This means Fortnite fans will be unable to play any of the game's different modes until around 11am BST UK time.

The news was announced by Epic Games on X: "Downtime for v31.41 begins at 4 AM ET with matchmaking ending shortly beforehand."

Due to the release of the surprise end of week update, Epic Games has made some changes to its weekly tournament schedule.

The first two rounds of the Trios Cash Cup has been pushed back until October 26, while Reload Platform Cups will take place on October 29.

As for the update itself, Fortnite insiders such as Hypex believe it will lay the foundations for a potential end of season event.

This could include an imminent in-game cinematic. Hypex explains more: "We might get ANOTHER Cinematic this update. Fortnite just hotfixed the in-game video player to play videos on 60 fps instead of 30."

In a follow-up tweet, Hypex explains that the event will have a countdown timer with a logo attached, which should give fans additional clues about what to expect. The event will take place in Restored Reels, and will have a focus button for a video player.

FORTNITE MOBILE

• Players may be unable to move after exiting Changing Booth.

- Upon exiting a Changing Booth Device in Creative, players' character may not move.

LEGO FORTNITE

• Item icons display a placeholder icon

- When transferring items over in the Inventory, the item icons display a placeholder icon.

• Players cannot harvest fruit from Fruit Trees

- Players are receiving the command ‘Collect Wood’ and can only gather wood when trying to harvest fruit.

• Certain animals do not unlock in the Codex

- Rams, Mountain Cows and Frost Wolfs do not unlock in the Codex after interacting with them.

• Backpack may get stuck in terrain on Floating Islands or in Caves.

- After being eliminated on Floating Islands or in Caves/Grottos, players' Backpack may get stuck inside terrain and cannot be retrieved.
