Water loves to hang on to these minerals as it dries, which ends up forming those stubborn spots that fog up your once crystal-clear screen. To add insult to injury, this type of water can stop soap from rinsing away properly.

To make it worse, soap prefers to mingle with the minerals and clings to your shower screen for dear life.

Sure, at first, limescale and soap buildup is just a visual mess in your otherwise spotless bathroom, but if you ignore it, it’ll only get more clingy, toughening up and attracting nastiness like mould and mildew.

Limescale can also wreak havoc on the glass itself by causing pitting and etching.

One savvy cleaner, Susan Harris, took to the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook group to share her go-to tip for tackling stained shower screens. She said: “So many people ask about cleaning cloudy stained shower screens.

“I’m a cleaner and never stop learning methods. I had the opportunity to do a before and after this week at work.”

Sarah Bendall asked: "Thank you for sharing! No products sprayed on the screen? No bleach or anything with the sponge?”

To which Susan responded: “Not a thing and it beats vinegar and other home remedies! Just water on the sponge. A toothbrush is handy round fixings though.”

Kelly Abbot chimed in: “I love these sponges. They work fantastic for nearly all stains.”
