Bear Grylls’ quiet life spent on an island he owns - purchased for £95,000

Bear Grylls, is a producer, writer and adventurer, and has become one of the most recognised faces of survival and outdoor adventure.

He spent three years as a soldier in the British Special Forces and has also published a selection of books.

When he’s not travelling the world to remote locations, Bear Grylls splits his time been a remote island near Wales and a penthouse in Battersea Power Station.

Bear purchased the remote island known as Saint Tudwal’s Island West in 2001 for £95,000.

It is situated near the coast of Llyn Peninsula, five miles offshore and is 20 acres in size.

The former lighthouse keeper’s cottage features no mains electricity or running water but Bear has previously said he loves living on the island and has also had great visitors, including Bradley Cooper.

Bear previously spoke fondly of his time on the island, where he lives for part of the year.

He said: “We’ve made some amazing memories living there and spending time with the boys on the island over the years, and just being able to have that space and enjoy nature, has been really special.

“But people always think that we must have somewhere really nice inside to go and all these fancy things but it’s not like that at all.”

Sharing a snap of their boat on Instagram, Bear captioned the post: “Our houseboat home on the River Thames in London.

“Shara and me built a life on this in the early years and it is a very special place for us, and has been especially for the boys growing up.”

The houseboat has now been sold but the family haven’t left the capital for good.

They split the other half of their time in a penthouse within Battersea Power Station. It is thought that the adventurer knocked three flats together to create a luxury home for his family.

However, a home in the capital doesn’t come cheap, with the average house price for a property in Battersea standing at £956,532 over the last year, according to Rightmove.

The majority of sales in Battersea during the last year were flats, selling for an average price of £788,618, whilst terrace properties sold for an average of £1,364,234, with semi-detached homes fetching £2,154,085.

Overall, sold prices in Battersea over the last year were three percent down on the previous year and similar to the 2017 peak of £954,537.

At the time of writing, the most expensive property for sale in Battersea is a whopping £9million.
