Prince Harry 'was very different' says ex-butler who reveals what Duke was really like | Royal | News

The former butler of  Prince Harry has said the duke was “very different” to traditional royals.

Grant Harrold, who worked as a butler for the Royal Household for a number of years, described the Duke of Sussex, 40, as being “down to earth”.

He also exclusively told Express.co.uk what Harry was like behind closed doors. He said: “Harry was great fun, amazing, down to earth.

“When you think of royals historically, he was very different to traditional royals. He was very easy going and fun, he was often seen at the pub. There’s a local pub near where I am and you’d go and see him in there having a pint.

“I can easily see him having a burger and beer, he likes that. It’s comfort food, he likes his comfort food. He was great fun, I really enjoyed being around him and spending time with him.”

Grant also said how Harry is now following in his mother Princess Diana’s footsteps.

He told Express.co.uk: “When Princess Diana left the Royal Family she had her own persona and charities she was involved in, she basically created something quite unique to her and what's been interesting about Harry is that he is kind of doing something similar.

“He is following in his mother’s footsteps which kind of makes sense. It's quite nice seeing Harry take that on.”

The former butler also told a story about how the duke, who was dating Chelsy Davy at the time, offered to buy him a chinese takeaway.

He said: “Harry was always quite keen on a takeaway.

"I was once offered a chinese takeaway by Harry after I started. I was a bit surprised when he offered it to me, but I declined.”

Mr Harrold’s insight comes as Greene King conducts wider research into the nation’s burger-eating habits to celebrate the launch of its new from £10 beer and burger deal, available at 645 sites until 28th October.

The butler has said that burgers should be eaten with a knife and a fork, which he says is the “proper etiquette”.
