Tesco makes change to trolleys that right-handed people hate | UK | News

Tesco has sparked outrage among right-handed shoppers after introducing new trolleys that seem to cater specifically for left-handed users.

The change, which places the slot for portable barcode scanners on the left side of the trolley, has caused frustration for many customers. The store hasn’t commented on the controversy but The Sun claimed bosses were considering the feedback.

Multiple social media users voiced their frustration online. Some said the handheld devices had previously been on the right before being moved.

One shopper said: “Please put the handheld thing back on the right or at least make a mixture of trolleys available. 90 per cent [of people] are right-handed and this change is just awfully impractical.”

Other disgruntled customers also chimed in, with one complaining “it drives me nuts” and another saying “it’s so awkward when you’re right-handed”.

But some have welcomed the move. Perhaps unsurprisingly, those of a left-handed disposition said it was nice to finally have something that suited them.

One leftie remarked: “I’m glad to see we finally have a tiny corner of the world for ourselves thanks to the humble Tesco shopping trolley.”

Another added: “I’ve always struggled to use scissors, peelers and other utensils designed for right-handers. It’s nice that something works well for us for a change — even if it was a mistake.”

It’s not the first time Tesco has been in the news this week. Yesterday we reported the supermarket giant had sparked outrage by changing its parking rules with a new "maximum" stay limit for late night shoppers.

Express.co.uk has contacted Tesco to ask about the new trolleys.
