How to cook crispy bacon fast without frying or using an oven

Bacon is undeniably more delicious when it’s cooked to crispy perfection, but achieving that perfect level of crispiness without burning it can be a challenge.

Chef Roice Bethel has come to the rescue with his foolproof recipe for consistently crispy bacon - and it doesn't involve frying or using an oven.

Roice, who goes by @noflakeysalt on Instagram, shared this culinary wisdom in a video to his 378,000 followers.

The video was titled: “Evenly crispy bacon every time!” In it, he detailed his technique and explained why it works so well.

Roice started off by saying: “If you want evenly crispy bacon, you need to boil it. I know that sounds like it wouldn’t work, but it does.”

He then referred to streaky bacon, stating: “There are two parts to every strip of bacon; there's the muscle which is the dark part and the fat which is the light part.

“The muscle cooks extremely quickly, the fat takes longer time to render out,” he continued.

His method begins with placing the bacon strips “into a cold pan” and then adding “add just enough water to cover your bacon”.

"The water prevents the temperature from getting too high which gives the fat time to render out,” Roice explained. “So the meat and the fat finish cooking at the same exact time.

“Once the water completely evaporates, the bacon will get nice and crispy, and the meat won't get overcooked or burnt. The fat is perfectly rendered so it's nice and crispy [too].”

While he didn't specify how long this cooking process takes, the video received hundreds of comments praising the tip.

One person proclaimed: "This is a fact. Works every time and flavour is the same." Meanwhile, a second added: "I've tried it and it does work!”

Another chimed in with their experience: “Done this and bacon stays good size and gets crispy takes a little longer but def worth it.”

While many advocate for this cooking method suggesting it preserves flavour, some beg to differ, particularly highlighting changes in texture.

One critic shared: “I tried this...like shoe leather. Terrible.” In contrast, a different comment simply stated: “Boil out all the flavour, got it.”

For those seeking alternative methods, there’s a plethora of options including using an air fryer or the microwave.

Express.co.uk recently tested out the microwave method for cooking bacon in three minutes and the results were fantastic.
