Mary Berry’s quiet life in gorgeous riverside town where homes fetch £748,000

With a career spanning more than six decades, Mary Berry has published more than 75 cookbooks, including her most recent, Mary Makes It Easy.

She has appeared as a judge on The Great British Bake Off as well as hosted lots of her own shows.

Her cookbooks and celebrity status have all helped her gain a $25million (£18.6million) net worth, according to CelebrityNetWorth.

This has allowed the baker to live in some of the most exclusive areas in the UK, including Penn, a village in Buckinghamshire.

Mary lived in the Grade II-listed property for more than 30 years and was where she filmed many of her cooking shows.

However, the baker is now reported to reside with her husband in Henley-on-Thames after they made the move six years ago.

Henley-on-Thames is a town on the edge of the left bank of the River Thames in south Oxfordshire, nine miles away from Reading.

It enjoys a wonderful stretch of river with delightful independent shops, and pubs, as well as numerous cafes and restaurants.

The town has also been continuously named as one of the most beautiful towns and has been voted one of the best places to live in the English countryside by The Times and The Telegraph.

However, buying in the town comes at a price, with the average house price almost double the national average in September 2024.

Properties in the town had an overall average price of £748,110 over the last year, according to Rightmove.

The majority of the sales in Henley-on-Thames during the last year were detached homes, selling for an average of £1,136,447.

Overall, sold prices in the town over the last year were six percent down on the previous year and three percent up on the 2021 peak of £727,928.

There are a range of homes in the area, with 198 currently on the market at the time of writing on Rightmove.

The most expensive is currently on sale for £4,400,000 but there is a range of detached, semi-detached properties and flats on the market.

Lots of famous people have lived in the area, with George Clooney owning a mansion up the road, as well as Orlando Bloom residing in the area.
