Ibrahima Konate calls out Gary Neville as Liverpool star takes Sky Sports to task | Football | Sport

Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate hilariously called out Gary Neville after being snubbed for the Man of the Match award after scoring in the 2-1 win over Wolves. The defender powered home a header to put the Reds ahead at Molineux as Arne Slot's side climbed to the Premier League summit.

But much to Konate's frustration, Manchester United icon Neville, who was commentating for Sky Sports, selected Ryan Gravenberch as the official Man of the Match.

Asked to hand the trophy to Gravenberch, Konate jokingly asked: "Sky Sports, who decides who is the Man of the Match? How is this possible? How is this possible? He (Gravenberch) is my brother so I have to give it to him.

"I score. Today, I score. I saved one but I didn't deserve it? What happened?" He then asked interviewer Juliet Farrington: "You know? You will have to talk with them (pundits), I don't know who decides it."

Someone positioned off camera made Konate aware that Neville decided the Man of the Match. The 25-year-old kissed his teeth and amusingly quizzed: "Gary Neville...?"

Gravenberch laughed before saying: "Thank you, Gary!"

Konate might have been a stronger contender for the award had his mistake not led to Wolves' equaliser. Having failed to shepherd the ball out for a goal-kick, the Frenchman was dispossessed close to goal and Rayan Ait-Nouri converted for the hosts.

But the Liverpool man made up for his error as he made a crucial block after Mohamed Salah had put the visitors back ahead from the penalty spot. Slot’s team have now won five of their first six Premier League matches and will remain top until next week - unless Aston Villa beat Ipswich by seven goals on Sunday.

“Wolves were very good today and it was a little bit tough for us,” Konate reflected on the game. “After we scored, we had a little bit of control on the game. In the second half, they come back to 1-1.

“What’s more important is the three points. We’re very happy with that.”

He added: “This is the Premier League. When you play in the Premier League, every game is very hard. We expected to get three points and we did it. We have an important game on Wednesday (against Bologna in the Champions League) and we have to start recovery now to be ready for that game.”
