New iPhone features to be unveiled soon - Apple confirms WWDC 2024

A blockbuster upgrade is coming to your iPhone and we now know exactly when Apple will reveal all. The US technology company has just confirmed that its yearly WWDC Developers Conference will take place on June 10, 2024, at its futuristic headquarters in Cupertino, California. WWDC might not sound that thrilling to consumers but this event is where Apple takes the wraps off its latest operating systems and glossy new features coming to the iPhone.

If history repeats itself, it's almost certain that we'll see iOS 18 uncovered by Apple CEO Tim Cook and his team of software executives. This update will then replace the current iOS 17 system later in the year.

There's no word yet on what will be included in the release but it's sure to bring a refreshed look, more widgets and added security to devices.

Along with updates to Apple's popular smartphone, we can also expect to see the latest changes that are incoming to the Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and Apple TV.

"We’re so excited to connect with developers from around the world for an extraordinary week of technology and community at WWDC24," said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "WWDC is all about sharing new ideas and providing our amazing developers with innovative tools and resources to help them make something even more wonderful."

Another reason to tune in on June 10 is that it might not just be about software. During last year's showcase, Apple revealed its new Vision Pro headset for the very first time and there are often a few hardware surprises thrown in during the live keynote.

With new iPads rumoured to be in development, Apple could use WWDC to reveal these latest tablets and we might see some upgrades coming to the Mac range as well.

Of course, Apple always keeps its news close to its chest so it's unlikely we'll find out full details until later in June.

If you are a developer and want to attend you can apply via the Apple Developer site and app.

Apple says it is also proud to support the next generation of developers through the Swift Student Challenge, one of many Apple programs that seek to uplift the next generation of developers.

On March 28, this year’s applicants will be notified of their status, and winners will be eligible to apply for the in-person experience at Apple Park. Fifty Distinguished Winners, who are recognised for outstanding submissions, will be invited to Cupertino for a three-day experience.
