RIP Spotify: Amazon offers four months of music streaming for free

Music streaming has well and truly replaced buying physical formats as the main way we all listen to our tunes in 2024, but with that change comes the commitment to a monthly subscription payment to services such as Spotify - and those prices keep on creeping up year over year.

Spotify Premium now costs £11.99 per month, with rival Apple Music asking for £10.99. These prices get you unlimited music streaming with no ads or restrictions. Spotify offers a free listening tier but it peppers you with ads and will only let you play songs shuffled. It basically exists to annoy you enough to pay up.

If you want a break from paying for your music streaming app, or simply fancy a change, then this great offer from Amazon Music is worth signing up for. Amazon is offering a 4-month free trial of Amazon Music Unlimited, its top-tier music streaming service if you are already an Amazon Prime subscriber.

That might sound a bit confusing, as full Prime subscribers already get access to Amazon Music. But there are two different services - Amazon Music gets you access to the full catalogue of music and podcasts Amazon has, but Amazon Music Unlimited lets you stream songs in HD, Ultra HD and Spatial Audio formats, and also lets you skip songs as many times as you want.

We think it’s a bit cheeky for Amazon to not allow unlimited skips on its regular Amazon Music service, but there you go.

The current offer for Prime members gets you four months of Amazon Music Unlimited for free. If you decide to keep the service, it’s £9.99 per month from the fifth month.

If you don’t have Prime, fear not, you can still sign up for a 3-month free trial, and can pay from the fourth month for the cost of £10.99 per month.

You might feel after the trial that Amazon Music Unlimited is a better option for you than paying more for Spotify, given it’ll let you stream in higher quality for thousands of songs. It’ll also be much easier for you to connect up to your Amazon Echo speakers and play songs through Amazon Music rather than a non-Amazon service.
