‘Best’ placement in your home for a dehumidifier to work effectively when drying clothes

Dehumidifiers work by drawing in excess moisture from the air, perfect for when drying and washing in the winter months.

They can also help to prevent mould and damp within the home, making them a no-brainer for many.

However, it can be tricky to know where to place them within the home, especially if it’s a large space.

Holly Male from Duux told Express.co.uk: “The best placement for a dehumidifier in a room depends on several factors.”

These factors include the layout of a room, the source of humidity, and the type of dehumidifier.

The expert added: “Where there is a specific source of moisture in the room, such as a bathroom or kitchen, placing the dehumidifier close to the source will increase its effectiveness.

“For general humidity control, place the dehumidifier in a central location to ensure even distribution throughout the room.”

It’s important to keep the device away from any direct heat sources such as radiators or radiators as they can affect its efficiency.

The expert also recommended avoiding placing the dehumidifier in a cramped corner or closed-off area as it needs good airflow on all sides to work.

If you’re yet to get your dehumidifier back out or are thinking of purchasing one, Holly also shared why they are recommended in every home.

The expert said: “Drying clothes indoors can be challenging without a tumble dryer. Dehumidifiers remove moisture from the air, helping clothes dry faster and preventing damp smells.

“When windows are closed, moisture from drying clothes gets trapped inside, causing condensation, damp stains, wet windows and black mould.

“A dehumidifier extracts this excess moisture, maintaining a healthy indoor environment.”

To maximise drying efficiency, the expert recommended avoiding overcrowding when it comes to drying clothes.

Simply give each piece of clothing for better airflow and use a dehumidifier in a smaller room to enhance the drying process.

Holly continued: “Recreate outdoor drying conditions by placing a dehumidifier on one side of the drying rack and a fan on the other.

“By having a fan oscillating next to the wet laundry, it creates air to flow through the clothing, whilst the dehumidifier helps to dry them.”
