Sweat, which leaves a pungent odour, dries yellow on white clothing and gets absorbed into fabric. As a result, it may take some time to get your clothes looking fresh again.

Contrary to popular belief, sweat stains are not just from perspiration.

"These stains are a combination of sweat proteins and ingredients in antiperspirants, particularly aluminium compounds," say experts at Stock Mfg. Co.

However, an expert has shared a clever hack to get your shirts stain-free, and all you need are some kitchen staples.

“To tackle these stubborn marks, create a paste using equal parts baking soda and water. Apply this to the stain and let it sit for an hour before washing in the hottest water safe for the fabric.”

This method works best on fresh stains and helps neutralise both the protein and chemical components of the stain, restoring your garment's appearance and eliminating odour.

Another expert, Sabrina Tretyakova said to use vinegar and baking soda. Soak the area in a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water for 30 minutes.

After, mix a paste with baking soda and water and let that sit on the stain for a further 15 minutes before washing normally in a hot or warm wash. It's best to tackle sweat stains as quickly as you can.

While many of us are self-conscious of pit stains, experts assure they are perfectly normal and show that our bodies are working properly.

However, these stains are sometimes worsened by using certain deodorants - especially if they contain aluminium.

A spokesperson at Vanish, the UK's leading stain remover brand, explained: "Sweat by itself is actually colourless and odourless. A sweat stain can happen when sweat comes into contact with other chemicals, such as aluminium, which is found in some deodorants."
