Two people have died and seven have been left injured following a crash in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

Emergency services are on the scene in the town's Barugh Green area after the multiple-vehicle crash which happened at about 2pm today.

The condition of those injured is not yet known with South Yorkshire police confirming roads remain closed in the area, which is in the west of Barnsley and near junction 37 of the M1.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area with those travelling north along Higham Common Road are advised to use routes through Pogmoor and Gawber instead, to reach A635 by the Whaley Road roundabout.
