Majorca family tries to claim £1,358 from Ryanair after 'flight chaos' | World | News




A Mallorcan family has reportedly filed a formal complaint against Ryanair after their flight was delayed by over four hours due to bad weather.

According to a report by Spanish news outlet Diario de Ibiza, Pere Josep Bueno Bauzà, accompanied by his wife Maria del Mar Vives Miró and their two young sons, had been due to leave Dublin for Palma on flight FR9187 on August 15.

But the flight, which was initially scheduled to depart at 6.25pm, didn't leave until more than four hours later at 10.40pm because of weather conditions in Majorca, according to the outlet.

The family reportedly complained that during the delay they were forced to stay inside the plane on the ground, claiming they didn't have access to the terminal and/or receive adequate assistance.

"They tell us that they know our right to be fed and hydrated, but there is not enough food and drink for everyone," Mr Bueno told the outlet, voicing indignation at the alleged lack of attention given by the airline to passengers.

According to the family, the delay caused scenes of panic among fliers, particularly families with young children. "Our children are still shocked by how a little girl in our same row was treated," Mr Bueno alleged, adding: "It was a distressing moment for everyone".

"The pilot even kicked out a passenger from the plane who he said was misbehaving, but we never saw him doing anything inappropriate," he claimed.

"We were simply all locked inside the plane without knowing when we were going to take off," Mr Bueno alleged, pointing to what he says was confusion and a lack of communication from the crew.

The family says they finally arrived in Palma at 2.30am the following morning, but weren't able to continue with their travel plan and had to get a taxi to their destination at a cost of €19.95 (£16.94).

"We had to take a taxi because there was no longer any transport available," he told the outlet. "This expense was totally unnecessary if we had arrived at the scheduled time."

The Bueno Bauzà family has asked Ryanair for compensation of €400 (£339) per passenger, totalling €1,600 (£1,358), as well as compensation for the cost of the taxi and an apology for the mistreatment they allegedly suffered.

"We demand to be compensated for the suffering and additional expenses that this situation has caused us," the family said.

The airline had not responded to the complaint when the report was published, and the family were said to be awaiting a resolution.
