Europe’s incredible 2500 nautical-mile ferry ride taking 12 days that feels like a cruise | World | News

Ferries and boats are among the most important means of transportation in Norway due to its extensive coastline.

Numerous ferries connect various Norwegian cities as well as the coastal country with other nations around northern Europe.

Express boats and car ferries sail up and down the Norwegian coast, allowing tourists and locals alike to create their own itineraries and reach the areas of their liking.

Among the most stunning ferry rides people can choose from is one believed to be among the world's longest - the Norwegian coastal express.

This long-running ferry ride offers passengers a unique way to visit the many villages and cities along the beautiful Norwegian coasts at their own pace.

The ferry ride takes its users from the city of Bergen, in southern Norway, and the small town of Kirkenes, which is famous for its view of the Northern Lights.

The voyage is offered by two companies - Hurtigruten and Havila - both stopping at 34 ports.

The complete return journey lasts 12 days and sees massive boats - resembling cruise ships more than ferries - travelling some 2,500 nautical miles.

A similar ferry ride gives people the chance to explore small fishing villages and farms as well as more famous cities such as Trondheim.

Those less keen on remaining on the freezing water for so many days can choose to travel only northbound or southbound.

Both Hurtigruten and Havila also offer shorter trips lasting between two to three days and focusing on specific areas of the Norwegian coast.

Summer is the most popular time to visit Norway due to the milder temperatures and long hours of daylight.

However, those on a quest to see the Northern Lights should head to the Nordic nation between December and February.
