Film fan database IMDb has ranked the Top 10 World War II films of all time and it is hardly surprising that those at the top multi-Oscar winners.

Of course, Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan made the list, but the epic was beaten to No 1 by another classic.

8. Inglourious Basterds (2009)

Quentin Tarantino’s World War II movie focuses on a plot to assassinate the Nazi leadership at a Paris cinema. Brad Pitt’s Lieutenant Aldo Raine leads a team of Jewish American soldiers, teaming up with a French Jewish movie theatre proprietor seeking to avenge her father. The tongue-in-cheek film, with its alternate history plot, was nominated for eight Oscars with Christoph Waltz winning Best Supporting Actor for his iconic turn as the villainous SS Colonel Hans Landa.
