One of the best action films of the 21st century is now streaming on BBC iPlayer | Films | Entertainment

It has been almost a decade since Dune director Denis Villeneuve helmed his epic action thriller Sicario, alongside Oscar-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins.

Penned by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, the film follows FBI agents enlisted to take down a powerful Mexican drug cartel.

The film’s all-star cast includes Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Jon Bernthal and Daniel Kaluuya.

The synopsis reads: “FBI special agents Kate Macer and Reggie Wayne lead a raid on a drug cartel safe house in Chandler, Arizona, where two police officers are killed.

“Subsequently recruited to a joint task force overseen by CIA officer Matt Graver and a secretive ex-prosecutor Alejandro Gillick to flush out and apprehend a cartel drug lord, Kate is soon out of her depth in the murky world of a lawless borderland.”

Sicario has 92 per cent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and was nominated for three Oscars.

A sequel called Sicario: Day of the Soldado followed in 2018 and a third movie called Sicario: Capos is in development.

Sicario is now streaming on BBC iPlayer for the next six months.
