World's richest tennis star shows true colours with four-word reply | Tennis | Sport

Despite being worth billions, tennis star Jessica Pegula has revealed that capturing Olympic glory is her "dream".

Pegula, whose parents own two American sports franchises and have an astonishing net worth of around £5.4billion, crashed out of the Paris Olympics in both the singles and doubles in the second round. However, regardless of how much she is set to inherit, Pegula has now stressed the significance of the Olympics and shown just how much the Games mean to her with a simple social media post.

The 30-year-old responded to a post on X, formerly Twitter, by Mallory Swanson in which the gold medal winning soccer star revealed that she had somewhat manifested her own success in Paris. Swanson was part of the USA women's football team that beat Brazil in the final at the Games, and not only did she make her 100th appearance for the team in the match, but she also scored the winning goal.

Taking to social media after her heroics, Swanson revealed a quote she had written in her high-school yearbook that said: "My favorite memory of 6th grade was Outdoor Ed. I want to be on the USA soccer team and win a gold medal." Pegula then responded: "A girl can dream".

Despite harbouring ambitions that no amount of money can buy, Pegula's dream to reach the Olympic podium will have to wait a little longer following an underwhelming showing in Paris. The world number six went into the Games as the fifth seed and defeated Viktorija Golubic 6-3, 6-4 in the first round. She then lost in the second round to Elina Svitolina 6-4, 1-6, 3-6.

Her run at gold in the doubles didn't fare much better either. Partnering with Coco Gauff, the duo lost 6-2, 4-6, 5-10 to the Czech Republic's Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova, also in the second round.
