iPhone 16 leak could have uncovered bold colour changes coming from Apple

If rumours are accurate, we are not far away from the launch of the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Just like it has done for the past four years, Apple will unveil a quartet of new smartphones to tempt you into upgrading or switching away from your Android device.

Though Apple is usually better than most of its tech rivals at keeping iPhone leaks to a minimum, a new video posted by reliable Apple YouTuber Zollotech has unveiled what is claimed to be the official design and colour options for the base model regular iPhone 16. He appears to have got his hands on mock-ups of the upcoming phones - these are not the real thing, but rather are likely based on all the latest leaks from Apple’s supply chain.

If these dummy model iPhones are accurate then we are in for a surprisingly big change from the iPhone 15. Because the iPhone 14 was practically identical to the iPhone 13, there was a reasonable expectation that Apple would style the iPhone 16 similar to the iPhone 15.

This also made sense given the iPhone 15 had a brand new design, with frosted matt glass back, softer curved edges, the Dynamic Island for the first time on the base model iPhone, and a range of light pastel colourways.

The alleged iPhone 16 models shown here are much bolder in colour than the 15, with blue, green, white, black and pink options all going for darker tones. With a much bolder finish than seen on the iPhone 15, these colours would also see the yellow model dropped for a return to a white option.

We think it’s good to have the option of a bold coloured iPhone, so we hope this iPhone 16 leak is accurate. While we didn’t dislike the pale iPhone 15 options, Apple has been criticised for not offering bold colours of its Pro iPhones, so it’s always appreciated when the regular model has some bright colour options. The iPhone 15 was the first flagship iPhone in years not to offer a Product Red version - you can currently only get that by buying the cheaper iPhone SE.

You’ll also notice the camera design of the iPhone 16 is said to have changed, with vertically aligned dual lenses instead of the diagonal seen since the iPhone 13. Along with the colour changes, this decision from Apple could be to encourage customers to upgrade to a new phone, or signal to the world they have the very latest iPhone.
