Brits have applaudded a gardening pro for helping a pensioner in dire need.

Amid the cost-of-living crisis, many of us simply can't afford to hire profesionals to keep our gardens in tip-top shape. But those physically unable to take on the task themselves are often forced to neglect their green spaces.

An overgrown lawn isn't just unsightly, but will eventually lead to an area riddled with weeds and insects that can cause irreverssible damage to the soil.

One woman, from Manchester, aged 98, is said to receive an eye-watering quote of £400 to have her tiny front garden tidied up - and had no choice but to turn the service down.

However, one man took it upon himself to do the job without any fee whatsoever – and has been praised for his generosity.

TikTok user Garden Yardz Mowing has gone viral after posting a video of him mowing the anonymous woman's lawn, which looks like it has had months worth of growth. He then blew the dead leafs off her drive and removed a row of stubborn weeds.

"98-year-old woman was quoted £400 for a garden tidy up, so I did it for free," he captioned the video, which amassed more than two million views and 38,000 likes.

Thousands of viewers flocked to the comments section to hail the kind act, with many blasting the gardener who quoted a high price for such a small job.

"£400, wow! I would have done it for a cup of coffee and a chat once a week just to know that person isn't lonely," one person wrote.

Another agreed, commenting: "Sick of people ripping old ones off, don't know how they sleep at night. Thank you for taking care of them."

A third added: "I'm a gardener and I would have charged £30 for this," while a fourth penned: "Quoted £400 for that small garden, what is wrong with people? Thank you for being so nice."
