Best UK mobile network confirmed, is your provider top of the list?

Average speeds for EE users in England is 80Mbps, that is compared to just 23.9Mbps for Vrgin Media O2 customers. As a quick guide, it would take an EE user around 2 minutes to download a 1GB file - O2 users would have to wait around 6 minutes.

Although EE came out on top overall, Three earned a share of the UK Text RootScore Award and ranked second in six out of eight UK-wide performance categories. RootMetrics says the operator also delivered excellent 5G availability and speeds.

Vodafone also posted improved speeds in major cities, as well as broader 5G availability and faster 5G median download speeds in most cities tested.

"In the first half of 2024, mobile network testing firm RootMetrics found that EE’s 5G availability and performance narrowly surpassed that of Three, allowing EE to win Best 5G Experience honours in 1H 2024, an award Three earned in the second half of 2023," RootMetrics confirmed.
