Andy Murray caught red-handed watching Simone Biles win Olympic gold | Other | Sport

Andy Murray has been soaking up life after retirement, catching plenty of Olympic events after his professional tennis career came to an end in Paris. After losing in the men’s tennis doubles with Dan Evans, Murray has sailed into the sunset but not without catching a glimpse of some of the attractions on offer in the French capital.

The 37-year-old had been spotted watching the mixed 4x100m medley relay final where Team GB’s Kathleen Dawson, James Wilby, Anna Hopkin and Duncan Scott struggled against a strong field - with a new world record set by Team USA.

And before he was a spectator near the pool, Murray could not resist watching one of the greatest-ever Olympians in action - Simone Biles.

The American gymnast won her 10th Olympics medal, the seventh gold, of her career with Muray in attendance. She was in a class of her own in the vault final by nailing her Biles II vault for an average of 15.300.

But it was Murray who for a fleeting moment stole the show when the TV cameras panned to him inside the arena. However, the two-time Wimbledon champion was caught red-handed next to Billie Jean King in the stands as he was tucking into some doughnuts while taking in Olympic greatness.

Murray had pledged to stick to his strict diet after retirement, but few would blame him for indulging in the days after his professional career came to an end. He likely would have wished that moment was not captured for all to see, however.

"I put on weight during COVID when I wasn’t training as much and eating junk. I didn't really like it, so I need to avoid that,” Murray told Hello!

"I love ice cream. And I'm partial to a biscuit or two. I like the ones with chocolate on top – I think they are called Choco Leibniz ...

"I've actually had a pretty restrictive diet for a long time as you have to eat healthy stuff as an athlete, so I'm looking forward to relaxing a bit and trying a few new things. I'll still eat a lot of sushi though – that's my favourite."

And while watching Biles in action create yet another piece of Olympic history, Murray’s sweet treat of choice was a doughnut as he watched on with another member of tennis royalty in Billie Jean King.

Andy’s mum Judy was even jealous of the pair, replying to a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) from the International Tennis Federation with: “Love this. My boy with my SHEro #ParisOlympics2024”
