Crumpets sold at Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Asda are 'unsafe to eat'

On Friday, August 2, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued a food safety warning to shoppers at Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Asda.

Manufacturer Rathbones Kear is recalling various packs of crumpets because they "may contain small pieces of metal".

The FSA stated: "The possible presence of metal makes this product unsafe to eat."

Affected batches include those sold at Morrison's, such as Morrisons Savers Crumpets, and Hovis Crumpets, which are sold at Sainsbury's and Asda.

Multiple batches have been affected, which should be returned to the store, and customers will receive a full refund.

Customers who bought any of these packs are urged to "not eat this product".

Rathbones Kear added: "No other products are affected by this issue. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety."

Elsewhere, Irish multinational retail chain Dunes Stores is recalling a popular sauce.

The company is recalling Italian Tomato and Basil Sauce because it contains milk which is not mentioned on the label.

The FSA clarified: "This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents."
