Prince William's six-word reply to fan saying it's 'weird' meeting him | Royal | News

Prince William gave a touching six-word reply to a fan who said it was weird to meet him.

The Sorted Food team recently filmed with the next-in-line to the throne for an event involving Earthshot Prize. Mike Huttlestone was tasked with putting a mic on William ahead of the filming.

He explained: “As soon as he turned up, he said: ‘I’ll come and meet everyone’ and walked straight through and talked to us all straightaway. It was so weird.

“As I was putting his microphone on I was for obvious reasons shaking, I was nervous and then I stupidly just went ‘Sorry this is just really weird. I’m still getting my head around it’ and he was just like ‘I’m still getting my head around it, it’s still weird for me sometimes’.”

Mike added: “I can’t speak more highly of just how…when everything was off and no one was watching he was just really nice, cool and made you feel at ease.”

Another member of the crew, Jamie Spafford also opened up about his experience of talking to the prince when the cameras were turned off. He said: “For me, the most special moment of that was actually when we were in the van with him and the cameras weren't there because they'd gone off to go and get you and everyone else that was within the community to start the surprise.

“And I was like, so that's my daughter. That's Evie; she was actually really hoping that Prince George might be with you today. She knows that he comes with you on a fair few of these things, and he went, 'Ahh'.

"He turned into a dad. In that split second, he turned into a dad and was talking about the fact that it was a really busy week and that Prince George was doing exams, and so he was quite stressed.”

Jamie added: "And they've been doing revision in the evenings and that kind of thing, and for like five minutes of conversation, you weren't talking to the world's like most famous man. You were talking to a dad about normal things.”

The Sorted Food crew’s comments about William come as he continues to endure an eventful year as both his wife Princess Kate and father King Charles recover from their respective cancer diagnoses.

William has had to balance his duties as a senior royal with looking after his three children, including the future heir to the throne Prince George. Earlier this year, a royal photographer said he spotted what he claimed to be a shared personality trait between William and his eldest son.

Speaking to the Express Ian Pelham-Turner said: “William was quite shy as well as a youngster and it comes over that George is quite shy as well.”

Mr Pelham-Turner added: “I remember with both William and Harry that Diana used to almost have to hold them in place if they were doing an official photograph where there were lots of photographers because they both hated photography and she realised that.

“I think the similarity is he has a shyness about him. He does his public duty, but there is a slight stiffness to him when he's in public and knows he's being photographed whereas when he's by himself as we saw during the Euros next to his father and they are both shouting and screaming for a goal he's much more demonstrative.

“William had that same quietness to him and I suppose that's really the similarity between them both. He's relaxed in this photograph because they can do it to his pace there is no pressure on him. The pressure on young royals is immense a lot of the time.”
