Sainsbury's, like many UK supermarkets, offers shoppers a meal deal which usually consists of a 'main' like a sandwich or a pasta pot, a 'snack' such as a packet of crisps, and a drink.

Sainsbury's shoppers recently kicked off on social media after it emerged the supermarket had increased the price of its meal deal by seven percent.

One user on the social media platform X posted: "The country is past the point of any repair. The Sainsbury's meal deal has gone up to £3.75."

Meanwhile another wrote: "Just when I thought Mondays couldn't get any worse, I've just realised Sainsbury's meal deals are now £3.75."

However, shoppers have just discovered they can now get an ice cream or an ice lolly as a part of Sainsbury's £3.75 meal deal.

Included in the meal deal alongside a sandwich and a drink, shoppers can get their hands on summer favourites such as Magnums, Calippos, Feasts, Twisters Cadbury Flake cones, Oreo ice cream sandwiches and Solero.

The particular ice cream shoppers can get their hands on will depend on stock and which branch they are shopping in.

The discovery has since gone viral on social media with one X user, Evie Aspinall posting: "PSA: You can get ice cream as your snack in the Sainsbury’s meal deal.

"I just had a Magnum as a mid-afternoon snack and life has never been better."

The post has received almost 10,000 likes and has been viewed 475,000 times.

The post was immediately inundated with comments from shoppers who were shocked by the discovery.

Adam posted on the social media platform: "This is life-changing. Thanks for sharing." And Alice Wright commented: "Oh my days!!! This is the best news!"

However, it's not just Sainsbury's where you can get an ice cream with your meal deal, Tesco offers an ice cream or an ice lolly as a snack in their meal deal too.

A Tesco meal deal costs £3.90 but those with a Clubcard can get it for £3.40.

There's also a £5.50 meal deal which includes several options from the Tesco Finest main options.
