PS Plus subscribers face agonisingly long wait for free PS4 and PS5 game reveal | Gaming | Entertainment

Barring a last minute leak or unexpected change of plans, PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers will have to wait a little longer than usual to find out which games will be joining the service in August. Because of the way the dates fall, the free PS4 and PS5 games for August won't actually be revealed until Wednesday, July 31 at 4.30pm BST UK time. This means the games won't be available to download and play until the morning of August 6. While it's a long wait to find out what games will join the line-up, the good news is that subscribers have more time to download the current batch of games, which include Borderlands 3 and NHL 24.

Borderlands 3 is certainly the pick of the bunch, featuring an addictive gameplay loop where new guns and items are regularly introduced.

The game revolves around a cult known as The Children of the Vault, who are making the post-apocalyptic wastelands a dangerous place to live.

Playable solo or with friends, your character is charged with exploring the Borderlands, completing missions and finding powerful new weapons.

"Shoot and loot your way through a mayhem-fueled adventure," reads the official description. "At the hard edge of the galaxy lies a group of planets ruthlessly exploited by militarised corporations, and brimming with loot and violence. This is your home – the Borderlands.

"Play as one of four all-new, deeply customisable Vault Hunters – the ultimate treasure-seeking badasses of the Borderlands."

NHL 24 is another solid sports release from Electronic Arts, featuring all the latest players and squads competing in the National Hockey League.

The game runs on a new engine that's said to "recreate the rush and fatigue of high-pressure games".

EA explains more: "Refreshed Total Control Skill Moves and a revamped Vision Passing System broaden your moment-to-moment strategies and allow you to execute them with complete precision.

"Build your NHL 24 Ultimate Team and recreate moments from classic matches and recent highlights in HUT Moments, and explore the expanded World of Chel, which offers cross-play, a redesigned EASHL and much more."

While the July games were largely well received, there was some controversy about the third game in the library.

Among Us is a fun multiplayer game where you're tasked with figuring out the imposter in a variety of different scenarios.

However, because the game is available at such a low price, some subscribers have complained about the percieved lack of value in giving it away for free.
