Urgent recall: McCain customers warned not to consume 9 items

McCain announced that it discovered that a third-party distributor was selling imported McCain Foods India retail products as part of a small market trial in the UK.

As a result, packs from nine different product lines have been available in 20 convenience stores since May 19, 2024.

The company identified an error in the third-party distributor's market suitability compliance check.

While the products complied with Indian market regulations, they were not properly assessed for the UK market, and thus, needed to be recalled.

Britons have been warned about the possible presence of UK-specific allergens, such as mustard and celery, and ethylene oxide, which is used to preserve product seasonings.

McCain has recalled 43,663 packs that went on sale, but 18,671 had already been purchased before the recall.

Customers who have bought these products are advised not to eat them.

Instead, shoppers should return the product to the store where it was purchased. They will receive a full refund, and a receipt is not required.

For further information, customers can contact McCain via www.mccain.co.uk/contact-us, by emailing customer.relations@mccain.co.uk, or by calling 0800 146573, Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, excluding Bank Holidays.
