The Royal Family is steeped in tradition, with every action, no matter how small, reflecting the weight of centuries-old customs. One such tradition involves the naming of royal children, a process that is often carefully considered.

But when Princess Beatrice was born on August 8, 1988, her parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, picked out a suprising name for her, which Queen Elizabeth took a stand against.

Although the late Queen's children were allowed to choose names for their own, they were still expected to inform the monarch of their decision. However, Queen Elizabeth II, who is known for her meticulous attention to detail disliked the name chosen by Andrew and Fergie.

According to the Sun, the first choice of the couple was the name - Princess Annabel, which the late Queen felt was too "yuppie".

This was a word that was created in the 1980s and referred "to the group of young upwardly-mobile professionals who made up a large number of the middle and upper-middle class".

However, she did come up with a solution, suggesting the name Beatrice, the name of Queen Victoria's youngest daughter. Beatrice's middle names, Elizabeth Mary, were chosen in honour of her grandmothers.

According to reports, royal commentator Wesley Kerr added: "She’s Beatrice Elizabeth Mary, so Beatrice has the names of all English Queens since 1910."

Beatrice, 35, and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are parents to two-year-old Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi and Edoardo's son Christopher 'Wolfie' Woolf.

Wolfie played a key role in the wedding of Princess Beatrice and Edoardo, which took place on July 17, 2020, as he was both best man and a page boy.

Beatrice and Edo said "I do" surrounded by close family and friends in All Saints Chapel, Windsor Great Park after Covid-19 scuppered their original plans.

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh joined Prince Andrew at the scaled-down Covid-secure wedding with around 20 guests.

Beatrice's younger sister, Princess Eugenie, 34, also gave her eldest son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank a sentimental name. He was named after his great-grandfather Prince Philip, and two of his great-grandfathers: Reverend Edward Hawke Brooksbank, and Prince Albert, whose given names included 'Augustus'. Eugenie's youngest child, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, is one.

In an Instagram post announcing his birth, the proud mum explained the family homages behind his name: "He is named after his great great great Grandfather George, his Grandpa George and my Grandpa Ronald."

Despite their titles and their HRH styles, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have never held official royal roles and have mostly joined the Firm to mark special family occasions only.
