Amanda Balionis' posts speak volumes as Rory McIlroy flees to mansion with wife | Golf | Sport

Golf presenter Amanda Balionis missed Rory McIlroy’s US Open heartache while enjoying a sun-soaked beach getaway.

The CBS Sports reporter posted a bikini-clad photo to her Instagram account, taken from a weekend in the Hamptons - a popular US seaside destination.

Balionis was rumoured to have been involved romantically with McIlroy, who endured a weekend to forget at the US Open.

The Northern Irishman boasted a two-stroke lead heading into the final part of Sunday’s action in North Carolina, only to throw away his advantage and gift-wrap the title for Bryson DeChambeau.

Following the collapse, McIlroy fled the Pinehurst course in under an hour, returning to the £17million Florida mansion he shares with wife Erica Stoll.

The US Open heartbreak comes amid a turbulent time in the golfer’s life, with McIlroy having recently called off his planned divorce wife Stoll.

It was reported in May that the pair had filed for a divorce, only to perform a dramatic u-turn ahead of last week’s US Open.

Addressing the situation, the four-time major winner told The Guardian: “Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realised that our best future was as a family together.

“Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”

However, between the divorce being filled and then subsequently scrapped, talk of a blossoming McIlroy and Balionis romance had been picking up.

Balionis, who was spotted without her wedding ring, is said to have shared a warm embrace, which included a hug, with McIlroy following this month’s Canadian Open.

But any potential fling looks to have been quashed, as McIlroy and Stoll appear to have guided their marriage back on track.

And given Balionis’ care-free Instagram snap, it would seem she too is getting on her with life as well.

Back on the course, McIlroy revealed he’s set to take some time away from golf following Sunday’s crushing US Open defeat.

Posting on X, McIlroy’s statement read: “Yesterday was a tough day, probably the toughest I've had in my nearly 17 years as a professional golfer.

“Firstly, I'd like to congratulate Bryson. He is a worthy champion and exactly what professional golf needs right now. I think we can all agree on that…

“As I said at the start of the tournament, I feel closer to winning my next major championship than I ever have. The one word that I would describe my career as is resilient…

"I'm going to take a few weeks away from the game to process everything and build myself back up for my defence of the Genesis Scottish Open and The Open at Royal Troon. See you in Scotland."
