Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, five, arrived to Trooping the Colour in a state carriage with their mother and they didn’t disappoint.

On Friday afternoon, the Palace released an announcement that Princess Kate and all three children would be in attendance, which wasn’t known up until that point in time.

Royal watchers around the world were thrilled by the announcement, knowing the Buckingham Palace balcony would be filled out for the King’s Birthday Parade, joining King Charles for his birthday celebration.

We spoke to royal historian Pauline Maclaran about what the Wales children bring to the big day.

Dr Maclaran, author of Royal Fever: The British Monarchy in Consumer Culture and Professor of Marketing and Consumer Research at Royal Holloway, University of London, said: “The children add greatly to the event and symbolise the continuity and future of the monarchy.”

She added: “They, of course, also bring the ‘cute’ factor to the overall pageant which is otherwise very traditional and solemn.”

“People love it when they make faces or appear to get out of line!”

George is the eldest of the three, and comes across as more reserved, and while Charlotte is two years younger, she’s been deemed the leader, by their late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, and then there’s Louis, who is known for being a ham.

When arriving to Horse Guards Parade, Louis got out of the carriage first, and stood proudly with his hands cupped in front of him, a stance he may have learned from his father Prince William. Louis was followed by big brother George, who stepped out of the carriage with confidence. Charlotte came out last, and had a little bounce in her step.

The children waited for their mother and all four then made their way into the ceremonial grounds. All three children have proven themselves to be just as polite and polished as their parents. But, there was more to come, ending the day on the Buckingham Palace balcony to greet the crowd and watch the Red Arrows fly over.

The King’s Birthday Parade begins at Buckingham Palace travels the Mall to the Horse Guards Parade and then circles back to the Palace.

Prince William and Princess Kate joined King Charles and Queen Camilla on the balcony. George, Charlotte and Louis stood calmly in front of their parents, as they waited patiently for the fly over.

The crowds were cheering, the engines were roaring, it was all coming to a head with little Lois breaking into a dance, doing a shoulder shimmy to the rhythm of the band.

7News Australia’s Hugh Whitfield said of the mini royal, “Prince Louis is up to his old tricks’” referring to the silly faces he pulled at last year’s Trooping.

Both George and Charlotte seemed to be enjoying themselves, chatting, smiling and staying close to their mother, turning backwards to check-in with Kate.

The children don’t have to do very much to bring the cute factor, it comes without trying.
