While it may be tempting to pop your clothes in the tumble dryer this week thanks to torrential downpours and cold temperatures, this could be costly, especially with the increased cost of living.

According to Heatable, a 2500W tumble dryer costs about 85p to use for an hour which can soon add up.

Now, fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch have shared their handy method for drying clothes quickly indoors.

Gemma Driscoll posted on the Facebook group, 'Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips': "Best way to dry clothes quickly on a clothes horse inside the home? Especially thick clothes like jeans and jumpers."

The most suggested solution was to use a dehumidifier alongside the airer which one fan described as a "game changer".

Tracey Bugbee said: "Dehumidifier - it’s a game changer."

Marianne Anderson agreed: "I have been hanging a dehumidifier bag to my clothes horse and my stuff is drying much quicker and the amount of water in the bag is crazy.

"Try for an airy space or even next to a window with it open. Hoodies and jumpers are always on mine and like people say don’t overload it I tend to give them a whole section to themselves."

Maureen 'Brightman' Rose also suggested: "I use a dehumidifier when I have to dry my clothes in the winter and quite often in summer too. It stops the damp and the washing gets drier quicker too."

A dehumidifier extracts excess moisture from indoor air, preventing condensation and damp issues and helping laundry to dry faster.

Dehumidifiers can be bought online and from various electrical goods stores.

Their prices range from £50 to £400 depending on the size you need.

Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans included doing a second spin in the washing machine, getting an extractor fan and using a towel.

Teresa Nikolic said: "In front of the radiator and with a dehumidifier on as well. Also double spin them at the end of the wash cycle."

Karen Otoole replied: "Get an extractor fan. Best thing I’ve ever bought. Dries washing very quickly - even towels, hoodies, jeans."

Càit Hannan commented: "Lay items out flat on a towel and roll to squeeze out most of the water. Then hang on airer to dry."
