How to clean glass without leaving streaks: Homemade solution leaves windows sparkling

As summer approaches, many people wish to ensure their windows are clean to enjoy the sunny weather, but getting glass spotless without leaving streaks behind can be difficult.

Glass is highly susceptible to smudges, dust, and dirt which imprint on the surface, and while it is easy to wipe away it can be difficult to clean without leaving behind streaks or marks.

Finding the right cleaning solution can be tricky but Kalyn Brooke, an organisational expert, has shared she discovered a homemade glass cleaner made with items she had in her kitchen after she ran out of supermarket cleaning supplies.

Kalyn said: “This recipe uses just three ingredients, and all of them are found right at home. It also cleans MUCH better than Windex.

“Whereas the blue liquid left me with streaky windows, this one leaves absolutely nothing but sparkling glass panes behind. It goes on a little cloudy, but then magically wipes clear—it’s pretty amazing stuff!”

“I guarantee that once you try it, you’ll never go back to the store-bought window cleaners again. I mean…why would you even want to when they’re this cheap, and this good?”

How to make a homemade glass cleaner

You will need:

  • Three tablespoons of white vinegar
  • Two tablespoons of rubbing alcohol
  • 500ml of water
  • An empty spray bottle

All you have to do is pour the vinegar and rubbing alcohol into an empty spray bottle but make sure to use a funnel as it can get messy.

Fill the bottle with water, secure the lid and then shake the bottle to mix. Then spray it on glass and it will clean windows, shower doors and mirrors without leaving streaks.

The reason this solution works so well is that both vinegar and rubbing alcohol evaporates very quickly, which ensures that no film or streaks are left on the glass.

Vinegar is also mildly acidic which means it is very effective at removing stains as well as grime which are common sources of streaks on glass.

Rubbing alcohol is a solvent, which means it is also great for quickly dissolving residues which often cause dirty glass stains.

Kaylyn said: “It is CRAZY how dirt cheap this stuff is.

"Granted, a £3 bottle every few months won’t set anyone back, but still, how can you pass up such a good, inexpensive product? I certainly can’t—at least not anymore!”
