Drivers can save ‘10 percent’ fuel replacing key part found in every car in UK

Petrol and diesel owners can save up to 10 percent fuel by replacing a vital component found in every vehicle, according to experts.

Specialists at Carlease.co.uk have stressed that a “clean air filter” can dramatically increase gas mileage.

The motoring experts also reveal the danger of running with a clogged air filter with road users at risk of being afflicted with serious damage.

Vehicle owners may not even be aware of a clogged filter but it could be putting serious “strain on the engine”

Air filters play an important role in stopping hazards such as dust, debris or insects from reaching the internals.

Carlease.co.uk said: “Thick debris and salt can clog your car’s air filter if left uncleaned for a long period, reducing fuel efficiency and compromising the air quality within your vehicle.

“The increased use of air conditioning in hotter months can strain the engine if you're running on a blocked filter, causing unnecessary wear to your AC units that could incur repair costs of up to £1,000.

"As a rule of thumb, replace your air filter every 12 months or 12,000 miles - depending on the road and air conditions you drive in - as a clean filter can improve gas mileage by up to 10 percent and extend the life of your car.
