King Charles 'hurt' by Prince Harry's decision to publicly snub him at event | Royal | News

King Charles is said to be "hurt" by Prince Harry's latest move, during which he appeared to publicly 'snub' his father by not wearing his Coronation medal.

The Duke of Sussex has appeared twice in recent weeks wearing an assortment of medals on his jacket.

Once last month, when he presented the Soldier of the Year award to US combat medic Sergeant First Class Elizabeth Marks via video link at an awards ceremony and another time when he visited the UK earlier this month to attend an Invictus Games event in London.

Harry sported his military medals, including; his Operational Service Medal for Afghanistan, which he earned in 2008 for his service in Helmand Province, the late Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal, which was awarded in 2002 to everyone who had been in active service for five years, Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee Medal, which was given to members of the emergency services, Armed Forces, prison service, and the royal household in 2012 and the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal.

But in both instances, he did not appear to wear his father's Coronation Medal, awarded to those who were involved in King Charles' formal ascension to the throne last May.

Now a royal expert has called out Harry's move and claimed it must be "rather hurtful" for the monarch to see his younger son not being publicly supportive.

Veteral royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams wrote in his column for the Express: "The Sussexes famously loathe what they claim is the constant press infringement of their privacy, yet their use of the media for their own purposes is nothing short of extraordinary.

"It breeds distrust and this is the main reason for the royal rift, which has now become a chasm.

"It is also curious that, at a time when he ought surely to feel the need to be publicly supportive of his father, he does not wear the King’s Coronation Medal with his other decorations, which the King must find privately rather hurtful."

The rift between the two camps is said to be deep with the duke failing to meet with his father during his second trip back to his homeland just a few weeks ago.

Charles was reportedly busy attending a number of royal engagements. Harry's spokesman said at the time: "In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not the duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it, unfortunately, will not be possible due to His Majesty's full programme.

"The duke of course is understanding of his father's diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon."
