Luke Littler may appear on Strictly Come Dancing as judge teases offer | Other | Sport

The teen has continued to prove himself in darts, winning four Premier League nights and could become the first player in the tournament’s history to take five in a single season, having qualified for the play-offs with two weeks to spare.

Ex-tennis star and BBC Wimbledon pundit Annabel Croft was joined by Paralympian Jody Cundy on last year’s edition of Strictly as the sporting members of their cast, with the programme now reportedly targeting a leading darts figure for 2024.

That could mean Littler, as darts' current leading star, but also the likes of world champion Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright or the game’s greatest player of all time Phil Taylor all potentially under consideration by the Beeb.

And Horwood, who has appeared in all but one edition since the show’s inception, is extremely keen on Strictly setting their sights on a contestant from the world of darts.

“There’s so many communities we haven’t explored and there’s a plethora of athletes - you know, we’ve had snooker, but we haven’t had a darts person, a world champion of darts,” Horwood told the Daily Star.

“I mean, there’s a lot of people that we can still invest in and that’s the beauty about Strictly, that it crosses all different communities and teaches other communities about that community, you know? So I think there’s so many different ways to go with it. I would love to see a darts player on there, wouldn’t you? It would be bloody fabulous!”

Since Littler became an overnight household name he has appeared on both The Jonathan Ross Show and Comic Relief, brushing shoulders with fellow celebrities but it is yet to change his own perception of himself.

After stablemate and Premier League rival Nathan Aspinall claimed that Littler is “not a darts player, he’s a celebrity”. Littler challenged that suggestion and insisted that he is simply trying to perform to the best of his abilities.

"Maybe look at my following, I might be classed as a celebrity," Littler, who has amassed over one million Instagram followers in a few months, replied. "But I'm just a lad doing what he does best. Am I [a celebrity]? I don't know. I'm just a dart player. I just get on with it, whatever comes my way.

"I just have to get on with it. Whether I say things and don't back it up. But at the minute I'm saying things and do back it up."
