Liverpool 'keen on £100m Anthony Gordon' as Newcastle face selling key men | Football | Sport

Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a £100m move for Newcastle's Anthony Gordon. The 23-year-old England international has had an impressive debut season at St James Park, and is expected to be part of Gareth Southgate's squad for the European Championships this summer.

His consistent performances have caught the attention of Liverpool's scouts as they prepare for life after Jurgen Klopp. Despite joining Newcastle just last August in a £45million transfer from Everton, Gordon could be sold as the Saudi-owned club looks to comply with Financial Fair Play rules, according to the Daily Star.

This news will undoubtedly concern Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, as Gordon, who was recently named the club's Player of the Season, has become a fan favourite. It would take a bid of nearly £100m from Liverpool to seriously challenge Newcastle's determination to keep their star player.

The Merseysiders, who are on the verge of appointing Dutchman Arne Slot as Klopp's successor, are yet to decide whether they will invest heavily in a single target like Gordon.

However, it is clear that they see the twice-capped England international as the best option to bolster their flanks, following a lacklustre title run-in.

Despite Newcastle United's strong position in the league and likely European qualification next season, Liverpool may still have a chance to secure Gordon.

Interestingly, despite his development at Goodison Park, Gordon has been a lifelong Liverpool supporter, having previously been part of their youth setup before moving to Everton at the age of 11.
