Gaming headsets have become all the buzz for gamers especially for those who want great sound and top-of-the-line features.  

We’ve been reviewing a few of gaming headsets recently and there have been some major improvements in sound which has really blown us away. In comes the Logitech G Pro X 2 Lightspeed wireless headset – one of Logitech’s more premium headsets (if you ignore the Logitech-owned Astro A50X) and it is fair to say that it delivers an extremely impressive performance when you compare it to other competitors.  

Logitech went with a no-fills straightforward design with the Logitech G Pro X 2 Lightspeed with big black earcups, black anodized metal with the familiar G logo on the sides and a smooth leatherette material on the exterior of the device.  

When it comes to the earcups, the memory foam leatherette is extremely comfy and sits on the head perfectly with little movement or adjustment needed. Compared to our Audeze Maxwell review (which we gave five stars), the headset is significantly lighter with a weight of 345g compared to the Maxwell’s 490g on your head. 

That makes a significant difference when you’re gaming and sometimes, we can find that the Audeze Maxwell can feel heavy due to the planar magnetic headphones. The Lightspeed doesn’t have this issue and we’ve been able to easily game with the headphones for long gaming sessions without discomfort or worry about them feeling heavy. 

However, for the £249 price tag the Lightspeed doesn’t feel as premium as the Audeze Maxwell. When you pick up the Lightspeed, the headset feel sturdy and premium with the faux leather but we noticed just how the Audeze was a cut above it. Despite this, the headset is still a solid device with great build quality for the price. 

Another thing the Logitech headset does well is how well it lays out all the buttons and connection ports on the side of the device. There’s an on-off button, mute button, USB-C port, volume scroll wheel and a button to connect to Bluetooth on certain devices located on the left earcups and are all very easy to locate. 

The Lightspeed has graphene 50mm drivers which Logitech touts allows you to hear enhanced audio response and reduced distortion when you game or listen to music. We didn’t hear a massive difference when we compared it to other premium headsets but it did perform very well. 

Logitech’s G Pro X 2 Lightspeed is the perfect headset if you love that low end bass. When we used the device for CounterStrike 2, you could really feel the bass when that grenade drops near your feet or that AK-47 rattles in your ear and we can imagine any other bass-heavy sections of your games will be great with the Lightspeed.  

On other games like Final Fantasy XIV, sound comes through clear and crisp especially when you’re in the main shopping hubs, being able to pick up all the small sounds you might not be able to hear if you’re using other headphones or monitor speakers.  

However compared to our Audeze Maxwell review, the G Pro X 2 Lightspeed gets trumped thanks to its bigger 90mm planar magnetic drivers with the sound feeling more spacious, neutral and well-rounded.  

We also enabled DTS Super Stereo Mode on Logitech’s G Hub and played around with some of the settings. These can sound brilliant depending on your preference especially the gaming preset with the traditional surround sound mode but this does crank up the bass which can be a bit off-putting depending on your sound tastes.  

The G Pro X 2 Lightspeed also performs when you listen to music. We listened to The Hills by The Weeknd which is known for its bass-heavy sections. Without the DTS Super Stereo Mode on, it sounds good but turn on that toggle and the bass blows your head off. 

So if you love to listen to bass-heavy music while you’re gaming, the Lightspeed headset might be the perfect device that covers all bases.

The Lightspeed comes with a detachable microphone when you get the headset which sounds great. We tested the microphone on Discord which produced great sound with others being able to hear a nice crisp and loud voice.  

It’s not going to compare to some standalone microphone set-ups but does a good job making sure your friends and teammates can hear you clearly. We also played around with Logitech’s G Hub Blue Vo!ce settings which improved some of the mic feedback. 

As much as we hate downloading external software to use, Logitech’s G Hub has impressed us with the G Pro X 2 Lightspeed with the effects and surround sound options which add that little bit extra when you buy the headset. As we mentioned in our Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2 review, the Logitech G Hub isn’t a hugely complex or bloaty piece of software so it’s worth downloading on PC. 

Battery life for the Lightspeed was also impressive. Logitech said that the headset lasts for more than 50 hours but we found that it went above that with around 80 hours of usage and we still have almost 20 per cent battery left which is stellar so if you hate charging, the Lightspeed is a great headset to pick up. 

The Logitech G Pro X 2 Lightspeed is a brilliant gaming headset with crisp and punchy sound, great microphone and design so it sits on your head without you even knowing about it. It’s great for gaming, music and entertainment which makes it one of the best well-rounded wireless headsets you can buy. 

But at an RRP of £249, it is expensive for the price but that is expected today in the world of premium gaming headsets and for a little bit more, you could buy the Audeze Maxwell which we gave five stars.
