Michael, who goes by @themediterraneangardener, has more than 220,000 followers on TikTok where he shares his gardening top tips.

In a recent video, the gardening pro shared five plants which add lots of colour to the garden, and come “every year”.

In the short video, Michael said: “Great for the front of a border, this is nepeta Persian blue, flowering May to September. It has lovely aromatic foliage and it’s loved by bees.”

According to the pro, scabious plants, which can be used as a filler amongst others, look “fabulous” in any garden.

They’re attractive to pollinators and the seeds are loved by birds, not to mention they come in a variety of gorgeous colours.

The core colours of scabious are white, lavender and blue but there are some burgundies, pinks and lemons to choose from too.

They generally like well-draining soil and will thrive in a sunny location, perfect for borders or containers.

Michael continued: “Great for the middle of a border is an achillea ‘Cerise Queen’ plant, which hosts beautiful pink flowers for months on end.”

It’s perfect for growing towards the middle of a border but can also thrive in gravel gardens.

For best flowering results, gardeners should grow them in full sun with well-draining soil and separate them every three years.

The gardening expert added: “Next is aquilegia spring magic, growing to around 40cm in height with these beautiful flowers in late spring to early summer.”

They are perfect for container growing, flower borders and beds but they also make great cut flowers too.

Finally, the TikTok sensation recommended the cottage garden classic lupins, bold, colourful flowers with spikes.

They are easy to grow, love the sun and work well in borders, gravel gardens, containers and more.

Michael noted: “They offer height and colour to your border with this beautiful pea-like flower which are adored by bumblebees.”
